Toyota has launched a new sub-brand called GR and the performance division plans to release an extensive lineup of performance models following the Yaris GRMN.
Probably tired of their reputation as a producer of beigemobiles and utility vehicles, Toyota is now attempting to distance themselves by revealing their plans to release a "new sports car series”.
Sitting at the very top of their lineup are GRMN models, which will feature a plethora of performance upgrades including engine enhancements. One step below is the GR series with every upgrade available aside from the engine; upgraded brakes, suspension, rolling stock, exhaust, limited slip differentials, aero and interior equipment. Then there’s the GR Sport models, mostly equipped with cosmetic upgrades and some suspension tuning, but GR Parts will be available to purchase separately so Sport owners won’t be left out.
Unfortunately, North America may not see these GR models anytime soon. “Toyota's launching new performance models at each level for the Japanese Domestic Market,” says CarScoops.
Europe is already getting the Yaris GRMN, but there was not mention of North America.
Hopefully Toyota’s GR models will be sold globally in the future as there’s plenty to look forward to including the Yaris in GRMN, GR, and GR Sport specs. The Prius, Lexus RX, Mark X sedan, Voxy and Noah will also be launched with GR Sport upgrades.
